The Young Adults Gambling Online in the ACT study will take a detailed look into how young people in the ACT engage in gambling activities online. This is the first study to be undertaken on the topic of young people’s internet-based gambling behaviour in the ACT.

The study will involve interviewing approximately 50 individuals with the aim of generating information about key areas where public health interventions could prevent harms related to youth online gambling locally. This includes interviewing 30-40 young people aged between 18 and 25 years, as well as 10-20 adults that are important in the lives of young people who gamble online. These other significant adults may include parent, teachers, or adults engaged with sports clubs and other youth serving organisations. Participants will be recruited from the community through flyers and social media advertising. The interviews will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

The Young Adults Gam(bl)ing Online in the ACT research will be recruiting participants from March - May 2023

The study will be guided by an appropriate advisory group of organisations who interact with young people and community members who are 18 years and older. The outputs of the project will directly inform new public health initiatives including education programs, and policy targeting gambling harm in young people in the ACT.
