The seminar will cover the survey design and implementation of Next Steps Age 25 Survey and present some initial findings. Next Steps (previously known as Longitudinal Study of Young People in England) is a large national cohort study following the lives of around 16,000 people in England born in 1989/1990. The study was run by the Department for Education in England from 2004 to 2010 with seven annual sweeps of data collection. It transferred to the Centre for Longitudinal Studies in 2013 with funding from the UK's Economic and Social Research Council. CLS re-started the study and collected another sweep of data in 2015/2016. The presentation will cover an overview of the study design and implementation, which involved a sequential mixed-mode approach using web, telephone and face-to-face data collection and the implementation of a wide range of data linkage consents, and reflect on some of the methodological and operational challenges in re-starting the study. It will also highlight research opportunities with the data, which provide a wealth of information about the important millennial generation, and present some initial findings.
