Janet McDougall holds the position of Archive Manager at the Australian Data Archive, ANU. Her background includes computing, data management, GIS, and social research (ANU MSR Adv). Janet specialises in archival workflows and sensitive data - curation, preservation, technical implementation, controlled vocabularies, and metadata standards. Janet’s archive experience is focussed mainly in the social sciences and humanities, but she has also gained experience providing curation and procedural direction during the establishment of the Long Term Ecological Research Network (LTERN) Data Portal in 2014, hosted at ANU.

Janet has worked closely with qualitative researchers to develop workflows to share data for reuse, provided technical liaison and solutions for the Return, Reconcile, Renew Project for the return of Ancestral Remains to be brought back to country, and supported the ANU GIS-Forum on campus. She has worked on multiple projects through the ANU First Nations Portfolio: providing data management and archival direction for an Aboriginal land council; implementing a Mukurtu CMS for their cultural preservations group; and providing metadata focussed support for the Indigenous Data Initiative in its aim to provide a clearer understanding of the ANU Indigenous data landscape. Further interests also include linked data support for shared vocabularies and standards, and the use of linked open data and the semantic web for data sharing.
