Abstract

Empirical research examining parental gambling and its impacts on child wellbeing remains limited. Additionally, the mechanisms through which parental gambling may translate into adverse child outcomes, or their wellbeing needs remains unknown. The current project aimed specifically to understand, using Australian population-based data (LSAC and HILDA), whether risky parental gambling is related to child physical health, mental health, and educational outcomes, and what other factors, such as financial distress, may be involved in this association. It also aimed to understand how current support services in the ACT understand this issue, identify and respond to the needs of children and parents in families where gambling is present.
